A Fresh Start – New Work Now Online!
By Jane Evans
I’ve finally done it – or almost! After many hours of photographing, uploading, and writing descriptions, my website is now filled with lots of new work. This is the first time I’ve attempted to get (nearly) all of my artwork online in one place, and it feels really good to see it coming together. There's still a little more to add, but it’s well on the way to being a complete archive of what I’ve been making over the past couple of years.
My intention going forward is to keep the site properly updated – no more hiding my prints away in folders or only sharing them in person at markets or exhibitions. From now on, I’ll be treating the website as a living portfolio, so everything I make will be visible here too.
Among the new pieces are a series I’m particularly excited about. I’ve been exploring a different way of working that still draws from Gyotaku, but instead of using real fish, I’ve carved lino versions of a fish and a prawn. I use them in exactly the same way I would a real fish – carefully inking them and pressing by hand – so they still carry that same tactile, textural quality I love about Gyotaku, but with a slightly different twist. It’s been a fun way to play with the technique while giving me a bit more flexibility in the studio.
Thanks for taking the time to visit – and do check back soon, as there’s still more to come!
