10 x 10 Inch Sardines Print – Linotaku Marine Wall Art

This 10 x 10 inch sardines print is hand-pulled from an original linocut block and printed in black acrylic ink on handmade Thai mulberry paper. The composition features three sardines arranged to highlight their distinctive shapes, scales, and flowing forms.  I've used exactly the same technique I'd use to print a real sardine, including hand painting the eyes after printing. The work is also wet mounted to a second sheet of Thai mulberry paper to give it strength. 

The bold black ink emphasises the graphic qualities of the linocut process, creating strong contrast against the natural texture of the mulberry paper. The square format allows the three fish to sit in a balanced composition, giving the piece both rhythm and visual movement.

The natural fibres of the Thai mulberry paper add warmth and subtle variation, enhancing the tactile quality of the print while softening the bold ink impression. Each piece is individually printed and hand-torn, ensuring every print has its own subtle variations.

Designed to be float mounted, the deckled edges remain visible, creating a clean and contemporary presentation.

Part of my ongoing series exploring marine subjects through printmaking, this work combines traditional relief printing techniques with a modern, minimal aesthetic.
