This 6 x 6 inch prawn print is created using a hand-carved lino block printed in bright orange acrylic ink. The work combines relief printing with the direct printing approach of Gyotaku, a process I refer to as Linotaku.

The prawn’s segmented shell, legs, and curved form translate well through the linocut process, producing a bold impression that highlights both texture and shape. The strong orange ink creates a vibrant contrast against the soft, natural tone of the handmade Thai mulberry paper.

The natural fibres of the paper introduce subtle texture and warmth, enhancing the tactile quality of the print. Each piece is individually hand-printed and hand-torn, ensuring every impression has its own character.

Designed to be float mounted, the deckled edges remain visible, creating a clean and contemporary presentation.

Part of my ongoing series of small-format marine prints, this work continues an exploration of coastal subjects through simple materials, direct printing methods, and close observation.
