This 6 x 6 inch sardine and anchovy print is created using hand-carved lino blocks printed in blue and metallic gold acrylic ink. The work combines relief printing with the direct printing approach of Gyotaku, a process I refer to as Linotaku.

The slender forms of the sardine and anchovy translate clearly through the linocut process, highlighting their distinctive shapes, fins, and surface textures. The deep blue ink establishes the structure of the fish while metallic gold accents catch the light, adding contrast and subtle movement within the composition.

The natural fibres of the handmade Thai mulberry paper introduce warmth and texture, enhancing the character of the print while softening the ink impression. Each piece is individually hand-printed and hand-torn, ensuring every impression has its own subtle variation.

Designed to be float mounted, the deckled edges remain visible, creating a clean and contemporary presentation.

Part of my ongoing series of small-format marine prints, this work continues an exploration of coastal subjects through simple materials, direct printing methods, and close observation.
