A4 Sea Bass Heads – Blue, Green & Gold

A striking original hand-printed artwork featuring two sea bass heads, created in a beautiful combination of blue, green and gold inks on traditional Chinese Xuan paper.

The two sea bass are carefully captured using the Gyotaku method, with the natural shapes and character of the fish brought to life through layered colour. Deep blue blends with gold ink to make a green but it also brings a warmth, movement and a subtle shimmer.

Printed onto delicate Chinese Xuan paper, traditionally prized for its strength, absorbency and beautiful surface, the paper allows the inks to settle and blend naturally. This gives each print its own individual character, with subtle variations in colour and texture that are part of the beauty of handmade printmaking.

The finished artwork is carefully mounted using the traditional Japanese Urauchi method. This involves backing the delicate printed paper with another sheet using wheat paste, helping to strengthen and flatten the artwork while preserving the qualities of the original paper.

Measuring A4, this is an original, individually hand-printed piece of marine artwork. The combination of the two sea bass heads, flowing colour and traditional papers and techniques creates a contemporary artwork with strong links to Japanese and East Asian printmaking traditions.
