Dive! Gyotaku of a Sea Bass Tail
It's been some time since I've done a tail print. I had a little commission and that is exactly what they wanted. Whenever I do a commission, I try and do more than one so that I'm always guaranteed that one of them will make it though the whole process of printing and wet mounting. On this occasion both survived.
So this is a small print that will fit in an A5 frame. I'm supplying it in a mount with a backing board and sealed in a cellophane bag. It's printed in high quality acrylic ink. The ink is light fast and permanent.
The bass was caught in the waters off the Island of Anglesey which is where I have my home and garden studio. I can see the waters from my studio window.
Once the print was made, I then flattened it using the Urauchi method. Making a simple glue from flour and water, the print is laid flat on a sheet of acrylic face down. I then paste the glue on the back of the print and add a second and then a third sheet of paper. In this case one sheet of Japanese Mulberry and then a final sheet of Japanese Masa paper. This makes the print beautifully flat and ready for framing.
This would make a lovely addition to any coastal home, or a perfect gift for a bass fisherman.
