Framed A5 Gyotaku of a Fern Leaf

I've always loved ferns, I think they are probably my favourite plants with all the varieties there are.  This frond was one of many growing in my garden just next to my studio. 

On a day where I don't have any fish to print, I love to print botanical specimens and it's May here now and all the fronds are so fresh and vibrant.

This print measures A5 with the external measurements of the frame approx 24cmx32cm.  It's an ideal size for a gift or a great addition to a gallery wall for anyone who loves the natural world.

Like all my prints, I use the same method of printing which means inking up the frond then pressing a lightweight paper over the frond.  In this case it was a Chinese Xuan Paper.  I've used Speedball Acrylic Ink and when the print was dry it was wet mounted using the Urauchi method to a second sheet of paper to give it strength and make it flat.
