Gyotaku Impression taken from the surface of a Large Prawn

This prawn was donated to me by my son.  He's a chef and was preparing for a competition and had a load of prawns for a recipe which he didn't need.  

I've printed this on an A4 sheet of Chinese calligraphy paper using blue and green ink.  It takes a long time to prepare and ink a prawn and then position it ready to print.  So although it's a small print, a lot of work goes into it.

Once the print is made, the paper isn't really good for framing as it gets wrinkled during printing.  So I take a second sheet of paper and using a very ancient technique called wet mounting or Urauchi, I glue the first sheet to the second sheet on a board and during this process the print can be completely flattened ready to be framed.

Every print I do comes with a certificate explaining when and where the specimen was caught and when it was printed. As it's A4 in size, it will fit into an off the shelf frame.
