This striking Gyotaku print features a Garfish, a long, needle-nosed species commonly used as bait for Sea Bass. Created by Anglesey-based Gyotaku artist Jane Evans, the piece captures the elegant, almost prehistoric form of the Garfish in exquisite detail.

The original fish was sourced frozen from a local fishing tackle shop on Anglesey, reflecting Jane’s commitment to using responsibly obtained specimens that connect directly to the island's coastal life. Printed by hand using lightfast, permanent acrylic ink on fine Chinese paper, the artwork measures approximately 70 x 35 cm.

This piece has been traditionally wet mounted using the Japanese Urauchi technique, giving the paper a smooth, flat finish and enhancing its longevity. As with all of Jane’s work, it is signed with her red hanko stamp, a personal seal that completes each print with a mark of authenticity.

A unique blend of traditional Japanese technique and Welsh coastal character, this print is a celebration of marine life and craftsmanship.
