Locusta Plasticus

This imaginative gyotaku print features a lobster-like creature composed entirely of beach plastic, brought to life through the same traditional techniques I use to print real lobsters. Using collected plastic waste and custom stencils, I’ve created an eerie yet compelling fusion of marine life and pollution—an imagined species that speaks to the creeping impact of plastic on the natural world. Printed in my garden studio with lightfast, permanent inks, the piece was finished off using the wet mounting method (Urauchi) to ensure fine detail and a flat, enduring finish. The resulting artwork is  a plastic creature that could exist in a future where ocean life and human waste become inseparable. This print invites reflection on the urgent need to address marine pollution before imagination becomes reality. A unique, conversation-starting addition to any space.
