This 10 x 10 inch Megrim sole print is hand-pulled using direct printing techniques inspired by traditional Gyotaku. Printed in deep blue and metallic gold acrylic ink on handmade Thai mulberry paper, the work highlights the distinctive texture, fins, and natural form of the fish while introducing a contemporary colour contrast.

The blue establishes depth and structure, while the gold catches light across the surface, emphasising the subtle textures and contours of the fish. The square format gives the composition balance and presence, allowing the fish to sit confidently within the space.

The natural fibres of the Thai mulberry paper add warmth and subtle variation, enhancing both the richness of the ink and the tactile quality of the print. Each piece is individually hand-pulled and hand-torn, ensuring every impression is unique.

Designed to be float mounted, the deckled edges remain visible, creating a refined and contemporary presentation.

Part of my ongoing Gyotaku-inspired marine series, this print continues my exploration of material, texture, and coastal subject matter through direct printmaking methods.
